Not all dresses in the fashion industry have made huge splashes at award shows or on the runway. Over the past 20 years, it has become common place to label actors and actresses the best or worst dressed at award shows like the Oscars or the Grammy’s. The famous red carpet is the perfect opportunity for designers to show off their best, but sometimes their best is just plain awful.
Some of the biggest actresses have worn some of the gaudiest dresses in history. Actresses like Demi Moore, Jennifer Lopez, Singer Celine Dion, Sophia Loren, and some the lesser know actresses have ended up looking ridiculous, when the dresses that are designed for them to wear don’t match their usual styles or their body frame.
Demi Moore has made her fair share of fashion gaphs in the past, but her 1989 Oscar appearance took the cake. She wore an open skirt trimmed in gold with a bustier and biker shorts. Let’s keep the athletics where they belong Demi. She looks much more appealing in knee length dresses that are solid in color to contrast her pale skin and dark hair.
Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to fashion faux pas either. She wore a dress to the 2010 World Music Awards that has officially been dubbed the “Crouching Tiger Hidden Drag Queen” dress.
It features garish alternating black and orange stripes with feathers accentuating the hem. What an eyesore! J Lo should stick to her signature Hollywood glam with sleek up do’s and satin ball gowns that flatter her famous curves.
Celine Dion has become a fashion icon in her own right, but in 1999 she made headlines by wearing a coveted Christian Dior two piece suit backward in protest of the fashion mongering taking place on the red carpet. This in and of itself isn’t such a bad thing, but her accessories were not flattering and the oversized hat and huge sunglasses hid the beauty of her face. Celine, like Jennifer, looks best in Hollywood glam with clean lines. She is one of the few women that could carry off a sheath dress with glaring success.
Sophia Loren has always been known for her cutting edge fashion sense, but the 2010 Oscars proved a bit too much. She wore a skin tone ruffled dress that looked like it had been dragged from her grandmother’s closet. Sophia looks best in Spanish style dresses that exhibit her flaming Latina sexiness.
