The 2010 Liberty Jeep comes with a RWD 6 cylinder 3.7 Powertech engine that is capable of producing a horsepower of 210. In the diesel version, a variable geometry turbocharger is used and this gives a horsepower of 160 and a torque of 295 lb.ft.
If you go back and look at the history of Jeep Liberty, it is from the marque of Chrysler and the first vehicle rolled out in the year 2002. It is a compact SUV. The 2010 version of this vehicle belongs to the second generation that commenced in 2008. The fact of the matter is that the 2010 Liberty Jeep is third model of the second generation. This model is an all-terrain model and is fit for off-road driving also if it is upgraded as all-wheel drive model.
The 6CYL 3.7 AUTO, as the name suggests, is a 6 cylinder engine. This 2010 model has a towing capacity of about 5,000 pounds. A few automobile experts are of the firm opinion that though the towing capacity of this model is very good, its power of 210 hp is below expectations compared to other vehicles of its class.
The transmission of this model is a four speed automatic transmission. The fuel efficiency of this vehicle is excellent when compared to the other all terrain SUVs.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the fuel economy is 16 miles per gallon within city limits and 21 miles per gallon on highways. If the vehicle is upgraded as an all-wheel drive, the fuel efficiency may come down by 5%.
This 6 cylinder 3.7 engine used on the 2010 model is similar to the one used on this vehicle in the previous years like 2008 and 2009 also. The major difference is that in the previous models, the transmission was manual whereas, in the 2010 model, it has been upgraded as an automatic transmission.
When the second generation started in 2008, the company decided to discontinue Liberty CRD in the American market. This decision was taken because the diesel engine on this could not meet the tough emission standards enacted in 2007.
In 2009, there was no major change from the 2008 model except a few small modifications. Another change effected in 2009 was with regard to the aspect of transmission. Instead of the six-speed manual transmission, the company opted for the four-speed automatic transmission.
