The ground realities and the core trends remain routed and come back time after time as these set the building blocks for the upcoming trends. No matter how much we progress and get further in life we cannot ignore the core realities and basics. It is truly said that no heights remain without strong foundations. The whole economy started with barter system which came into picture after some great efforts to come to a consensus. Barter is a means or method of exchange by which goods and services are exchanged for other goods and services without a means of exchange like money. It still exists in underdeveloped, developing and developed countries as a parallel system to monetary system. The concepts like trade exchange, corporate exchange, internet barter, barter markets are still prevalent.

Limitations are there in modern concepts too so we cannot rate one over the other. The limitations of barter exchange which gave rise to monetary system were as follows;

No commons measure of value
Invisibility of some goods
No standards for deferred payment
Impossible to store

The concept that doesn’t let barter system to extinct is that everyone has something or the other to offer and when everyone has something or the other offer exchange can always be a good option.

Internet too has taken advantage of the same and launched and used the concept of barter online. There are a number of sites that allow exchange of ideas, pictures, videos, chats, music and information etc between people. As new opportunities, ideas, products and partnerships are in plenty thus barter is possible easily. Internet as a platform allows the whole world to exchange for good. Websites also allow users to advertise explicitly about their idea and goods for exchange making it a completely new business concept.

Whether it be skills or material things exchange can be lucrative for all. It just gets unnoticed but barter exchange is happening every moment as exchange of work for work, skills for skills, and things for things and interlinked and also money for money which cannot be ignored.

Thus it is difficult to say it is old or a new concept but it is being practiced since ages although got hidden. This gives rise to healthy exchange and fulfills the needs of many or rather everyone. This can also be helpful in eroding poorness prevailing in many parts of the world. Hence it proves that old is gold and shouldn’t be ignored.
