Is there any question that evil and wickedness has been loosed upon our world and been left all to long unchallenged. It is growing at an uncanny rate and runs rampant and unleashed across the earth; robbing and raping both the young and old of any true joy. What is the power that is fueling this evil into an uncontainable wildfire? For America , its is as simple as a device as the power of distraction. Distractions come from both external sources (physical stimuli through the five senses), or internal sources (thought, emotion, fantasies, physical urges). Distraction is a major cause of procrastination though it is possible to be diligent and still diverted from what is valuable. According to philosopher Damon Young distraction is chiefly an inability to identify, attend to or attain what is valuable, even when we are hard working or content. It is a tactic that has been used in warfare for centuries to divert attention away from the primary goal or purpose and all to often leaves a flank exposed.
You’ve heard it said that “all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing". Maybe you have found yourself in the twilight hours without sleep; struggling, wrestling…plagued by thoughts of deeds past, present and future. That consciousness you will try so hard in the days that follow to drown in a sea of distraction. Not only are we plagued by this consciousness, but also “the voice”….no more audible than a whisper. It calls to us….whispers of encouragement that promise a remedy. If you drink this it will make you feel better…if you buy this you’ll be happier…..if you watch this you’ll be satisfied….Just try it once, you wont get addicted. Then, no sooner had you reached for the door, just to crack it a little bit or dipped your toe in the water to test its strength that small voice invades your mind again with criticism, discouragement and notions of failure.
My friends, this voice is none other than the voice of the evil one….yes I mean none other than Satan himself. He is a deceiver and the accuser of man. Now, I know there are those of you who will scoff at the name, brushing it off as a myth born out of religious zealots, who have created the fearful image to keep the common man in a state of fear and check, so that he may be easily controlled. But I implore you now to lift the veil of distraction he has set before your eyes and recognize that he is unbelievably real and you are playing into his wonderful deception by denying his existence. Ladies and Gentleman, citizens of this earth, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not there is a spiritual realm to our existence and a war is raging in a battle for your soul. Satan’s whole objective ….his sole mission is to keep you from a relationship with your creator. He is trying to keep you from the knowledge of salvation and is succeeding wonderfully by keeping you dull and ignorant, filled up and consumed by life’s many distractions and hollow ambitions.
He does so through the two simple words “if only”…..if only I had that car, I would be set……if only I had a girlfriend ….f only I lived there….had that job….made more money. Lies ….all of it is lies, intended to keep your focus from what is valuable and what is eternal. They are all futile pursuits, none of which you can stay on top of for the car will be outdated in eight months, the girlfriend will leave for someone younger and more wealthy, the house on the hill will loose its shine, that job will be the source of your stress and will keep you from your family…and you will never have enough money.
Friends it is imperative that you search…not next week, not tomorrow, but now. High and low, near and far you need to look and search your soul for the answers to your existence…your purpose here. Research through all the religions, philosophies and wise words for an absolute truth. And I am confident that you will end up no place other than the feet of Jesus Christ.
I want you to know friend that there is a God.... a God of Love, mercy and peace. Psalm 139:18 tells us that his thoughts of us individually are more in number than the sands of the sea. He knows your heart and the In's and outs of your life. He knows the good things you have done and the things you hardly admit even to yourself. He has loved you at your worst. No matter how many good things you do from this point forward you can never make him love you more than he does at this moment and he wants you to come to him just as you are. This agape love is a love that surpasses all human understanding....it is absolutely and completely unconditional. He proved this love by sending his son Jesus Christ upon the earth as a man in perfect innocence and allowed him to be slain on a cross to pay the debt of your shortcomings ...your sins. The first step in knowing this God and beginning to trust him is to accept and acknowledge the gift of salvation through the blood of his son Jesus Christ.
Just seek him...open that door. I challenge you to do this in the quiet hour of your day; alone and away from any distraction. Ask him if he is real, say "Lord if you are really real, reveal yourself to me in a way that I cannot deny....speak to me through your word". Then I challenge you to open a bible and your heart and he will cast upon you a peace that you have never experienced in your life before. He will lift burdens you have carried on your shoulders for years and he will begin to work and reveal himself in your life like you have never imagined possible. He wants you to trust him...he wants to help you through your trials and he longs to love you more completely. The catch is though that he will not make you love him ....you have to first seek him and accept his gift of perfect love.
Thank you for lending your ear and opening the door if only just a little bit. It is my sincerest hope that you find the courage to question and seek answers to your existence for time is short and no man can knoweth if he will have tomorrow.
