How many users are getting frustrated with the number one free classifieds website on the web? Hundreds? Thousands? Yes! But, while many users might complain about the bots and all the fake postings, only a few people are actually doing something about it. A few new similar, more modernized websites are opening their doors. Once dedicated Craigslist users, they are becoming passionate providers for a more real free marketplaces. On Craigslist, 90% of women seeking men ads I replied to as part of a test, proved to be bots and spam. Auto replies were sent to my email box by the dozens. In a final test, with an elaborate, well written ad, I receive no real replies. It is no wonder people are leaving it behind.

I have personally been to a few of these sites, like http://AlaskaList.com, http://kijiji.com (Operated by Ebay) and http://www.Jacknabit.org. http://www.Jacknabit.org is a brand new website, unlike the others and the most impressive one. Still offering the more “desired” sections, they do heavily monitor posting traffic, so you know 99% of the ads on there are real. Can they prevent spam from contacting you? They cannot prevent, but they can slow. Users can email you using a ‘contact form’ and they must fill out a Capcha, so most bot programs cannot get past this. The site is free, just like CL. One change? You do not have to register in order to post an ad in all sections.

The owner, Jack Rankin, in fact showed me how he can completely and permanently block users IP addresses from accessing his site, should they be deemed spammers or are otherwise abusing the website. On a side note, we found it funny that Ebay, who owns part of Craigslist (25 percent) decided to compete with Craigslist. Hmmm. While many sites cater to other countries (which widely invite spammers), http://www.Jacknabit.org does not. They are also working on new features which may disable any out of country IP.

They just need to be careful, since even Yahoo! Might use some IPs that show up as out of country, so perfecting the block will be some time.

There are other sites out there, like http://powerlist.com and http://www.adnabbit.com, but they have been out for months with no interest in them. http://www.Jacknabit.org seems to have a cult-like following within 60 days of being put on the air. A forum where anything can be discussed, a link to the famed stumbleupon website and you can follow the owner on twitter. Direct conversation with the owner is possible through his forum, at the bottom where there are many sections, from complaints to section suggestions.

Mr. Rankin holds by far the most aggressive advertising campaign on a budget of ZERO. He has managed to work out deals with a Sticker company at a mall in San Diego to advertise on his vehicles and he is working with them on a deal for shirts too, all at a minimum cost. Dedicated as he is, he hands out flyers too. Coming soon are the new stickers with “CALVIN” urinating on ‘Craigslist’. So, worried about a low content site? Don’t be. Minimal spam, and knowing that most every person on the site is real has to be the best benefit to Jacknabit.org. And they are not going global. Sticking to the US market will prevent many more spamming attacks that Craigslist has opened itself up to. Sure, http://www.Jacknabit.org will face its own spamming issues, but not to the degree that Craigslist is.

Only time will tell if http://www.Jacknabit.org has the drive to stand in there with the best of them. Faced with trails of bad press given to Craigslist, Mr. Rankin is hopeful people will welcome his site with open arms! Some people are always afraid to be the first to post in their area, so he challenges you to take that lead and people will follow you.
