Peter Jackson, the genre master, produces this film under the directorial debut of Neill Blomkamp. Action, Science fiction,
thriller and drama, what more words can describe District 9 more appropriately? The title of the film has been inspired by
the historical events which happened in the South Africa under apartheid in a Cape Town residential area named District 6.
Tagline ‘You are not welcome here’ suggests that there is something repulsive about District 9.

In the year 1990, a huge star ship carrying messy population of aliens appeared over the city of Johannesburg, South Africa.
2 decades later, the initial welcome of these refugees by the humans has faded out and the camp for refugees where these
aliens lived has deteriorated into militarized ghetto area called as District 9. Here, the aliens are confined and are
exploited to the extreme. In the year 2010, the team of Wikus van der Merwe is called for forcibly evicting these aliens from
the area and it is during this operation, that Wikus comes across a strange chemical and seeks help from his two new friends
who are from the Prawns community, that is, the aliens. Because this substance changes his DNA, he has to help the aliens in
escaping from the planet so that he can be turned back to normal.
